How do you lay rolled roofing. Measure 35 inches up from the eaves at several intervals along the roof and mark them. Nail the roofing in place with short roofing nails spaced 6 inches apart and 1 inch in from the outer edges of the roll roofing. This reduces the chances of wrinkles after the roofing is installed. Be careful not to get any on your skin in this process.
To seal a plumbing vent spread roofing cement around the pipe. The piece should overlap the lower course by at least 4 inches. Then apply roofing cement evenly around the roof edges where these strips are going to go. Attach the strip to the roof every 3 inches with nails pulling it tight as you go.
Cut a hole in the roll roofing and slip it over as well. You need to place starter strips of roll roofing along all edges of the roof so start by cutting pieces of roofing about 18 inches wide. Lay the first strip of material so that it overhangs the drip edges of your roof by about a quarter inch. Add a second piece of full width roll roofing over the first.
Nail it in place with roofing nails that penetrate at least 3 4 inch into. Don t put nails any closer to the edge of the roof than 1 inch. Step 3 apply the edge strips. Do not use the eaves as a guide instead because they can be uneven.
Cut a hole in a piece of roofing about 2 feet wide and slip it over the pipe.
