How Do You Brace Roof Trusses

How do you brace roof trusses. Measure the area to be framed and plan for the number of trusses you will need. Using the same 24 inch on center measurements that you marked on the wall plates earlier mark each truss for bracing. Unfortunately the gable end truss is difficult to brace back to the deck without the braces interfering with the second truss. Each brace should correspond to the marks made previously.

Then i go through and install my runners along the bottom. On a one story building the gable end truss can be braced to stakes driven in the ground. Many builders start by sheathing the gable end truss on the ground and lifting that first. When several trusses are in place nail the end of the brace over the second gable end truss.

Start bracing rafters or trusses on the first end installed. Start with the gable end truss. Step 4 install temporary bracing. Step 2 lift trusses onto roof.

Also plan for the temporary. To hold them up until the decking of the roof is placed on top a 12 foot 1 inch by 4 inch piece of lumber is used. Nail long 2 by 4 inch boards to the outside edge of each rafter and to stakes in the ground outside to hold the rafter pair or truss vertically plumb.

Stagger top and bottom cord bracing so the lumber ends on different trusses for additional rigidity as you work your way down the building. Fasten rafters or truss ends to the wall caps on each side with framing nails once rafters are plumb. Now that the trusses are installed i make sure all the poles are plumb and headers are straight. Then nail the brace securely to the other trusses.

It can be nailed temporarily to each truss as the next truss is put in place. Roof truss bracing done right. Step 3 brace first truss to ground. Use a hammer and framing nails.
