Hip Roof Purlin Support

Hip rafters are simply called hips and are shown here as brown.
Hip roof purlin support. Hip roofs have hip rafters which are oriented diagonally to the ridge and outside walls. The braces struts or kickers should be within every 4 and should not be at a greater than a 45 degree angle towards the roof slope lower side. Purlins as shown in sample photos below are installed for rafter support. If you see sagging rafters recommend stabilization by a qualified contractor.
In architecture or structural engineering or building a purlin or purline is a horizontal structural member in a roof.
